DCODD is a project of localized sets of videos. 2D codes¹ are painted on the ground on twelve different squares in Paris. Each 2D code links to a specific video. Every two months, a new artist makes a new set of twelve videos.

Since recently on-demand information was made available on specific spots with new localization technologies like GPS, 2D codes, or RFID² microchips. Implementing our physical experience of a place, those tools will soon be available everywhere. Local information of all sorts (notices, advertising, traffic info, maps...) will be available everywhere at any time through wireless technology. DCODD project is aiming to artistically experiment 2D-code technology as a new trend that will slowly be integrated to our urban behaviour and perception of space and time.

DCODD suggests a delocalization of this emerging ultra-localization. Instead of the usual "you are here", DCODD suggests a "you're not there", a "you're not there, there, there, nor there", or even a "you're not now". The project introduces a gap between reality and the experience of a place rather than referring to its literal perception. Videos linked to a place by DCODD with 2D codes are neither of tourist interest nor documentary but intend to create a new scenery, or even a disconcerting view of the local context.

How to enjoy the DCODD experience?³

- your mobile phone must have a camera and be able to connect to the Internet,
- you must install the appropriate software (free) on your phone: Mobiletag. You can either download it to your computer from here or directly to your mobile by typing in the url mobiletag.com/download, or alternatively send "TAG" to +33 6 61 71 49 61,
- shoot the tag using the Mobiletag on your mobile and the video will automatically play.

Demo DCODD

¹ A 2D-code is a new type of barcode meant to be read by a camera equipped and Internet enabled mobile phone. It gives direct and rapid access to multimedia contents (pictures, videos, texts...)
² The acronym RFID means "Radio Frequency IDentification". This technology allows to remotely identify and track any object bearing the radio transmitting microchip usually contained in a label.

³ The DCODD project uses the Mobiletag technology.
